Once upon a time, there was a unicorn and a blue whale.
They had met once before, but due to rather unfortunate circumstances, being together was quite difficult. They needed to come up with a solution if they ever wanted to spend more time together.
The blue whale floated in the ocean, thinking to himself.
“Hmm… what could I possibly do? I would love to be with that unicorn, but she can’t breathe underwater, and I certainly can’t live on land. Something has to change.”
Then the whale remembered something he had once heard about.
A drum.
A shamanic journey.
“If I could travel into the spirit world,” he thought, “perhaps I could learn to change my form and become another creature.”
Filled with excitement, the blue whale set out in search of everything he needed to build a drum. After a while, he found the right materials and carefully crafted one with great love. Once it was finished, he prepared a sacred ceremony for his journey of transformation.
The blue whale, it turned out, was quite an intuitive shaman.
The drumming began.
Now, if you’ve never seen a blue whale playing a drum, you are truly missing out. It is both an extraordinary sight and an unforgettable concert.
Eventually, the rhythm carried him into a deep trance, and he stepped into the spirit world.
This time he travelled to the Lower World, for that was where beings went when they sought transformation.
He dove deeper and deeper until he entered another realm, where he was greeted by his guide—a magnificent dragon-like being, glowing with soft pink light.
The dragon looked at him kindly.
“What brings you here?”
The whale sighed.
“Well… I’ve fallen in love with a unicorn. She lives on land, and I live in the sea. We met once when the tide left me stranded on the shore. I was slowly drying out and nearly died, yet I had never been happier. Meeting her felt like coming home, even while I was gasping for my last breath.
Eventually the tide returned, and I made it back to the ocean. But I miss her every single day. Could you help me become another animal?”
The glowing dragon listened patiently before smiling.
“It sounds as though you are meant to be together. I can teach you how to change your form so that you may walk upon the land whenever you wish. And when you’ve learned, you can teach the unicorn the very same gift. Then the two of you will be free to meet not only on land, but also beneath the sea.
Fortunately, everything is possible.”
The whale listened with his baleen hanging wide open.
“No way…”
But yes.
It really was possible.
So the dragon taught the whale the ancient art of shapeshifting.
It wasn’t easy.
It took practice, patience and unwavering devotion to the vision held in his heart. Day after day he trained with the dragon until, at last, he succeeded.
With immense gratitude, the whale thanked his teacher.
Then he began to transform.
He leapt back from the spirit world…
…and emerged as a unicorn.
Standing on dry land, breathing air and feeling the warmth of the sun on his skin was astonishing.
Before long, his beloved unicorn came galloping toward him.
She stopped in complete disbelief.
“This can’t be! I thought I was the last unicorn left in the world… and yet here you are. But somehow… you feel exactly like someone very dear to me who lives in the sea. What does this mean?”
The unicorn smiled.
“It really is me. I learned how to change my form, so now we can be together here on land. And I can teach you how to do it too. Then we can be wherever we wish.
On land.
In the sea.
Or in the sky.
Just imagine that.”
The unicorn gazed at this familiar stranger—another unicorn, yet unlike any other—and instantly recognised the soul behind the form.
Everything was exactly as it should be.
And together they rode toward the very edge of the Universe.
The End. Sen pituinen se.
