Shadow Life

Perhaps it’s time to let go of the deep dives into the past. It has always been natural for me, but now it feels like an echo from far away rather than something that truly serves me in this moment. With my investigating martyr nature, I’ve come into close contact with all that has influenced me on the subconscious level, my underworld.

And rather than letting go, healing, or fixing, the word I want to use here is integration, or wholeness. I accept these as parts of myself, because each of my shadows holds within it a diamond, a gift, and fulfillment.

I dove with a friend into the wondrous world of Gene Keys, and while this system once felt distant to me, suddenly it opened like the most fascinating book, with one difference: this one was about me. The journey begins with the Activation Sequence, then moves into Venus, and from there onward to Pearl. Or at least that’s the common chronological order. First, it’s good to face what kinds of experiences within oneself are longing to find their way home, before the path opens toward the deeper inner parts, the shadows of childhood and the patterns of social connection.

But what is my path toward love and the transformation of struggle? For me, it begins with corruption, the experience of extreme imbalance, of living through all sorts of things that went against my values, my body, my clan. At its core was the full resistance to Life, to Love, to God. I did not trust, so I fought. And yet, it has always sought to transform, through balance, into harmony. Ah yes, one of the Sun-in-Libra’s favorite themes: what gives rise to balance, how harmony is created.

The greatest key for me has been entering into service. Four years ago, I reached a pivotal moment in life, realizing that the way I had been living could no longer continue. It was time to release my egoistic way of planning my life and surrender it to the Creator, to the service of the Whole. This also appears in my Pearl, as the line of charity. It is essential for me to find the way of living and acting that serves both myself and others in right proportion. One cannot serve the Whole in a balanced way if one’s own needs are ignored. Self-care is a vital key in living true abundance. Yet if one’s own needs come before everything else, the balance is disturbed all the same. So it is a constant, delicate sensing of what is right in each moment, and trust that God will always guide and show the right way to act. My deepest joy is born from serving the Whole.

Balance also depends on being centered within oneself. Only there can one navigate both external and internal challenges in a way that generates harmony. My path through corruption runs deep. I know what it is, and now I also begin to see how crucial it has been for my journey, a gateway into the gift of balance.

Corruption’s dance partner has been Chaos, which has, understandably, made everything quite chaotic. I’ve often said that the first 32 years of my life were pure chaos and violence, the face of corruption. For a long time, I struggled to understand why. Was I simply too foolish to live better, more balanced? But through this exploration, it’s starting to open beautifully. Chaos seeks to transform into innocence. What has helped me here is realizing that my innermost essence is completely innocent, and that it is only an illusion that makes me see myself as anything else.

Another of my shadows is struggle. One big revelation for me was seeing that the gift side of chaos and struggle is not order or ease, but innocence and honor. So how, then, to live through innocence and honor?

The path there is through innovation and determination, both strong themes within me. They just haven’t had enough space or support before. They have been side notes, golden shadows, unrealized potential. The challenges of life are merely portals of transformation, and every stumble holds a possibility. Every conflict is a doorway to growth and synergy for the Whole.

One theme these past days has been breakthrough. It has been teasing and inviting me to look deeper at myself. Instead of avoiding my life, which is actually the key to my radiance, the call is to step more fully into this human experience through my senses. It is about accepting all forms, letting joy and seriousness alternate in a balanced rhythm. It is about honoring the moment, living through awe and wonder. That includes allowing pleasure and bringing deeper embodiment through it. And not only pleasure, but embracing the full spectrum of emotion, both the deepest sorrow and the brightest joy. Receive life as it is served to you. See the gift in every experience.

The final step before stepping onto the Venus path is dissolving the illusion of limitation. I have carried strong programs of scarcity and inadequacy in my field. I’ve often imagined life to be hard and difficult, myself to be poor or incapable of managing normal life. A great realization came about six years ago when I simply decided, I will no longer be poor. And that was that. I would say I still have a journey ahead toward living in full abundance, in fully allowing it, but it’s fascinating to see how truly my thoughts shape reality in every moment. Limitation transforms through the gift of realism. Ah, again one of my favorite themes. I often tell people that my second name is practicality. The realist lives strong in me, and sometimes people mistake that for seriousness. But it’s really a deep sense of common sense in me that longs for things to be both grounded and visionary, feet on the earth, head in the clouds. This theme also includes healthy boundaries and trust in the rhythm of life.

I trust the order that chaos creates within me. It is like stepping into the eye of the storm, where, despite the swirling winds, I can rest in my center. When my shadows converse with one another, meeting face to face, they begin to open, revealing the hidden gifts. And thus, the greater whole begins to take shape, to return to memory. And I can finally say, with true belief in my own words,

Everything is exactly as it should be.
